Iran’s ‘Daughter’ to battle it out at Italy festival

Renowned Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi’s ‘Daughter’ is set to represent Iran cinema at the 2017 Fiuggi Film Festival in Italy.

‘Daughter’ has been selected for the competition section to be held July 23-29, 2017.

Mirkarimi’s feature film is about a family living in the southwestern Iranian port city of Abadan. The family’s younger daughter tells her family that she is off to Tehran to see one of her best friends, who is leaving Iran for good. Despite her father’s advice to the contrary, she took a flight to Tehran. Her disobedience ignites a series of incidents that leads to too much hassle for the family.

The movie has won national and international awards including the best film and the best actor awards at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival.

Farhad Aslani, Merila Zarei, Mahoor Alvand and Shahrokh Foroutanian are among the cast for the globally acclaimed movie.

The Fiuggi Film Festival is an annual international film competition aimed primarily at young people, taking place since 2009.
